AUGMENTED REALITY APP USING ARCORE

ISTTS once again held a KSP Season 8 webinar entitled "Augmented Reality App using ARCore". The fourth episode of KSP was delivered by 2 sources at the same time, Amelia Alexandra, S.Kom. and Christian Wicaksana. Ms. Amelia is one of the ISTTS S1 Informatics Engineering lecturers. Meanwhile, Mr. Christian is one of the ISTTS alumni who has applied ARCore as the title of his Final Project.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 and is open to internal and external participants via the Zoom platform and live streaming on Youtube. The KSP was opened by Mrs. Amelia with a self introduction then continued by explaining the material about ARCore

Have you heard of Augmented Reality technology? Or maybe we have ever used this technology? Actually, we often encounter Augmented Reality in everyday life. In this article, we will explain what ARCore is and what it is used for.

Augmented Reality, which is taking computer-generated digital information and then combining it with the real world. So that it allows users to see the real world with the addition of virtual objects. Like some time ago, what was being discussed on social media was the video of the song Indonesia Raya which appeared when the Rp. 75,000 bill was being scanned. Cool, right? That is one example of Augmented Reality in real life. Therefore, ARCore software is believed to provide a new "color" in the realm of digital content. ARCore itself is a Software Development Kit (SDK) for Android and iOS which was first released in March 2018. Even though ARCore is not yet very popular, Google is still optimistic about bringing its AR SDK to consumers and developers.

The webinar was then followed by Mr. Christian showing the results of the Final Project and continued with the implementation of ARCore by live coding using Android Studio. The supported devices are Android version 7.0 (Nougat) and later. With the help of ARCore, it is easier to develop applications that allow users to view 2D or 3D virtual objects projected on the real world.

At the end of the event, Mrs. Amelia gave advice to final semester students who wanted to take their final project. He said that ARCore could be an interesting topic! Moreover, ARCore is a technology trend that is currently booming. The webinar was then followed by a question and answer session between the KSP participants and the resource persons. The Seminar ends with a photo and attendance for the participants who have participated in the KSP.
