KSP Goes to Schools Season 18: SMA Kr. Anak Bangsa, 11 September 2024, Produk Sederhana Bisa Jadi Tidak Biasa
In this season's Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP), I, Celine Cenery, presented material representing the Product Design department from ISTTS with the theme "Produk Sederhana Bisa Jadi Produk Tidak Biasa". The seminar was held on September 11, 2024, in the multipurpose hall of SMA Kr. Anak Bangsa, which is usually used for seminars, sports, or competitions. The seminar started at 12:50 PM and ended at 2:20 PM WIB.
During the seminar, I was accompanied by one representative from PMB, Ma’am Jenny, and her assistant. The event opened with the PMB representative introducing ISTTS and giving brief information about the departments at ISTTS. After the PMB presentation, I continued with my seminar material on "Produk Sederhana Bisa Jadi Produk Tidak Biasa". In the first part of my presentation, I explained what product design is, what can be gained by enrolling in the product design program, and what job opportunities are available after graduation. While explaining these points, I asked the students of SMA Kr. Anak Bangsa a question: do they know what product design is? Many students were not very familiar with product design and what is studied within the program. However, they still made an effort to answer my question.
Next, I explained the importance of product design in today's industry, highlighting brands like IKEA and Wallet Ninja. These major brands focus on multifunctional products. For example, IKEA's business mission is to provide a wide range of affordable household products for many people, not just a few. This is achieved by combining functionality, quality, design, and value—always with sustainability in mind. Wallet Ninja, on the other hand, focuses on a single product that has more than 10 functions. I also explained examples of multifunctional products and why they are important in today's industry. To develop multifunctional products, students can study courses such as "Reverse Engineering." In this course, they will learn how to think about designing products using methods that deconstruct, analyze, and combine components to create new items.
After I finished presenting the material, I showed a glimpse of my project and how to create a new product. To conclude the seminar, I organized a competition using 3D pens to create phone holders. However, due to time constraints, the competition rules were changed to making the most interesting 3D pen creations. In less than 45 minutes, the students of SMA Kr. Anak Bangsa were able to produce some very impressive creations. Many students were highly interested and enthusiastic about making their works, with several of them eagerly asking me questions. We ended the seminar with a photo session with the first to third place winners of the competition.
