SMARTPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY TECHNIQUE VS TECHNOLOGY

Tuesday, March 10 2020, ISTTS held a KSP seminar entitled "Smartphone Photography Technique VS Technology" which was presented by Mr. Herman Budianto, Ir., M.M. He is a lecturer at the ISTTS S1 Informatics Engineering. This seminar was held in room E-402 and was attended by 40 ISTTS students. In this KSP, Mr. Herman shared a story about his interest in photography and also shared about his collection of camera lenses and tripods.

In the world of photography in this recent era, you don't have to use a DSLR, even with a smartphone we can produce good photos. This is of course supported by the better quality of cameras and existing software and technology. Not infrequently, low-end smartphones are equipped with manual camera settings. This condition makes smartphone users have to understand the names Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO in order to maximize the function of the camera they have. Aperture is a component of the lens that functions to regulate the intensity of light entering the camera. In addition, there is Shutter Speed, which is a measure of the speed at which the sensor window opens and closes or for what time the sensor receives light. The last is ISO, the definition of ISO itself is a measure of the sensitivity of the camera sensor to light. The higher the ISO setting, the more sensitive the camera sensor is to light.

He also explained 2 things that cannot be separated from photography, namely the importance of technique and technology. Even though we have extensive knowledge or techniques about photography but are not supported by sophisticated technology, the results are also less than perfect. Likewise, if it is supported by sophisticated technology but the knowledge we have is lacking, it will produce something ordinary. He also mentioned creativity. Even if we carry a normal camera, the photos will not be inferior to professional cameras. "What makes it great is creativity with the tools that are modest which can produce something unexpected," he explained.

From this KSP, it can be concluded that the existence of a smartphone can help us to maximize our creativity.
