KSP : Facts About Apps on Windows 10 That Might Surprise You

On Tuesday, 23 June 2020, IST re-opened the open online KSP
for internal and external. This time, KSP raised the topic "Facts About Applications in Windows 10 That Might Surprise You" and was delivered by an experienced ISTTS lecturer, Mr. Riandika Lumaris, S.Kom., M.Kom.

Mr. Riandika started his presentation by saying that applications in Windows 10 will be the main topic today. “Windows 7 support ended on January 14, 2020, so there are still those using Windows 7 out
Just now, "joked Pak Riandika, who was responded to with happy emoticons by the KSP participants in a live presentation.

"The technology now is much different from the previous technology," said Pak Riandika.
Technology is always changing. This can be seen from PCs with the latest designs (laptops, convertibles, detachables, 2-in-1 tablets, mixed reality reality, collaboration tools), new ways of interaction (touch, pen, voice, dial, gesture, gaze) and system UI. new ways of interaction support for the latest PC designs.

Desktop applications or other Win32 applications are applications that usually run on a desktop PC. The characteristics of Desktop Applications include: installation with EXE or MSI, mature technology so there are already a lot of applications, designed for desktop PCs specifically designed to use a mouse and
keyboard.

Now there are many applications based on Desktop Apps, this type of application
it has several black sides such as: not saving battery, burdensome OS startup (approving application settings to start at startup), being able to install programs without accepting, having access to the camera, microphone, etc. at any time as well as a difficult uninstall process because there are always files and registry left behind.
With ever-changing technology and the black side of desktop apps, what's the solution? Pak Riandika answered this question in 2 words, namely: UWP Apps.

The UWP application (Universal Window Application) is an application that can be run on many Windows 10-based devices. To check the applications we do
including UWP applications or not, Mr. Riandika provides simple tips by clicking Shift + Win + Enter on the keyboard. When entering full screen mode, the application is a UWP application.

The advantages of UWP Apps include: support for various types of input, modern application design, battery saving, safer security and privacy with easy installation by installing via the Microsoft Store or other official sites. Apart from that it was deleted
the application is also made easier by simply clicking the "uninstall" button.
Unlike the Desktop Application, the UWP Application will not leave files and registry on the PC after the application is deleted. UWP applications run in a container and by default, they cannot access the microphone, camera, etc. - so security and privacy are more affordable.

Windows 10 itself has also provided features to manage permissions given to each application.

"Unlike the desktop application which can access at any time, if the UWP must match the user's license," said Pak Riandika, "so really, the user is in control," he added.

Then will UWP Apps ask for Desktop Apps? Mr. Riandika answered:
Not for now. This is due to the large number of desktop applications available now and the UWP application can only run on Windows 10 when some applications must be able to support previous versions of Windows OS.
Pak Riandika, the participant, advised to always prioritize using the UWP application and installing applications from the Microsoft Store. "[This is] for the good of us together," he said.
